Your Pain Didn’t Start Yesterday: Why Prevention and Long-Term Care Matter

Dr. Jae ho Roh from Revive Chiropractic in Sunnyvale breaks down a common misconception: that your pain started with one simple movement. Using the bucket analogy, he explains how stress, poor posture, and daily wear accumulate over time until one small action becomes the tipping point.

Discover why waiting for pain to appear before seeking care is like only changing your car’s oil after the engine breaks down. Dr. Roh shares insights on prevention, maintenance care, and building long-term spinal health.

Whether you’re dealing with chronic pain or want to avoid future problems, this episode will change how you think about chiropractic care and your body’s wellness.

Hey everyone, Doctor Jae ho Roh here from Revive Chiropractic in Sunnyvale. Thanks for tuning in today.

You know what I hear all the time? Someone comes into the office and says, “Doc, my back just went out this morning while I was brushing my teeth.” Or maybe it was bending down to tie their shoe. And they’re convinced that the toothbrush or the shoelace caused their pain.

Here’s the thing though. That’s almost never what actually happened.

Think about it this way. If you had a bucket and you filled it drop by drop, day after day, week after week… eventually one single drop makes it overflow. But was it really that last drop that caused the problem? Or was it all the drops that came before?

Your spine works the same way. That moment when your back seized up while brushing your teeth? That was just the final drop. The bucket had been filling for months, maybe even years.

Maybe it was the hours sitting at your desk with your head forward. Maybe it was sleeping on an old mattress. Could have been the stress you’ve been carrying in your shoulders. Or that old injury from ten years ago that you thought healed perfectly.

All of those things add up. They create tiny imbalances, little restrictions in how your joints move, muscle tension that becomes your new normal. And your body is amazing… it compensates. It adapts. It keeps you moving. Until one day, it can’t anymore.

That’s why I’m so passionate about prevention and ongoing care. Because by the time pain shows up, the problem has usually been brewing for a while.

Now, I’m not saying you need to live in fear or worry about every little thing. Not at all. But just like you brush your teeth every day to prevent cavities, your spine needs regular attention too.

Here’s what that looks like in real life. First, pay attention to your daily habits. How do you sit? How do you sleep? Are you moving throughout your day, or are you locked in one position for hours? Small adjustments here make a massive difference over time.

Second, when you do feel those little warning signs… maybe some stiffness, some tension, a little twinge that comes and goes… don’t ignore it. That’s your body talking to you. That’s the bucket telling you it’s getting full.

And third, consider maintenance care. Even when you feel great. I know that sounds strange, but think about your car. You don’t wait for the engine to die before you change the oil, right? You maintain it. Your spine deserves the same respect.

When you come in for regular adjustments and check-ins, we catch those small imbalances before they become big problems. We keep that bucket from overflowing.

So if you’re dealing with pain right now, yes, let’s absolutely take care of that. But let’s also talk about why it happened and how we prevent it from coming back. Because getting out of pain is step one. Staying out of pain? That’s where the real magic happens.

And if you’re feeling pretty good right now? That’s actually the perfect time to get checked. Let’s keep you feeling that way.

If you’re here in Sunnyvale and you want to take a more proactive approach to your health, give us a call at Revive Chiropractic. Let’s work together to keep that bucket from overflowing in the first place.

Thanks for listening, everyone. Take care of yourselves, and I’ll catch you next time.
