Chiropractic Care for Athletes and Active Adults

In this episode of the Revive Chiropractic podcast, Dr. Jae ho Roh dives into one of his favorite topics: chiropractic care for athletes and active adults. Whether you’re a competitive athlete, a weekend warrior, or simply someone who loves staying active, this episode is packed with insights you can use.

Dr. Roh addresses one of the most common misconceptions he hears in his Sunnyvale practice — that chiropractic care is only for people in serious pain. He explains how proactive chiropractic treatment can actually improve performance, speed up recovery, and help active individuals avoid injury in the first place.

Tune in to learn how Revive Chiropractic approaches care for the active lifestyle and what you can expect when you make movement a priority for your long-term health.

Hey there, and welcome back. I’m Doctor Jae ho Roh, and you’re listening to the Revive Chiropractic podcast, coming to you from right here in Sunnyvale, California. Today we’re talking about something I’m really passionate about — chiropractic care for athletes and active adults. And look, whether you’re a competitive athlete, a weekend warrior, or someone who just loves staying active… this one is for you.

Here’s something I hear all the time in my office. Someone comes in and says, “Doctor Roh, I don’t want to slow down. I just want to keep doing what I love.” And I get it. Movement is life. Staying active is one of the best things you can do for your body and your mind. So today I want to share how chiropractic care can help you do exactly that — move better, feel better, and stay in the game longer.

Let’s start with something really important. Your spine is the foundation of everything you do physically. Every run, every lift, every swing, every jump — it all involves your spine and your nervous system working together. When your spine is properly aligned, your muscles fire the way they’re supposed to, your joints move the way they’re designed to, and your body can perform at its best. But when something is off — even slightly — you start to compensate. And those compensations? That’s where injuries happen.

Now here’s the thing about athletes. You’re putting a lot of demand on your body. Repetitive motion, high impact, stress and strain over time — it adds up. And a lot of people wait until something really hurts before they come in. I totally understand that. But the truth is, chiropractic care works best when it’s part of your regular routine, not just your emergency plan. Think of it like maintenance on your car. You don’t wait for the engine to break down before you get an oil change, right?

What I do in the office is look at the whole picture. We check your spine, your joints, your posture, and how your body moves as a unit. If there are areas that are restricted or misaligned — what we call subluxations — we work to correct those. When your joints are moving freely and your nervous system is communicating clearly, your body heals faster, recovers better, and performs at a higher level.

Here’s what’s interesting — a lot of athletes are surprised by how much tension they’re carrying that they didn’t even know was there. Neck stiffness that was affecting their range of motion. A hip that was slightly off, throwing off their stride. These are things that don’t always scream at you. But when you address them, you feel the difference immediately.

Now, what can you do at home? A few simple things go a long way. First, take your warm-up seriously. Spend a real five to ten minutes getting your body ready to move — dynamic stretching, light movement, not just a quick jog and go. Second, pay attention to recovery. Sleep, hydration, and nutrition matter enormously for how your body bounces back. And third, listen to your body. Pain is information. If something is nagging at you for more than a few days, don’t just push through it. Get it checked out.

So when should you come see me? Honestly, you don’t have to be in pain to benefit from chiropractic care. If you’re active and you want to stay that way… come in. If you’ve got a nagging ache that won’t quite go away… come in. If you just finished a season, a race, or a tough training block… come in. And of course, if you’ve had an injury and you want to make sure you’re healing properly and getting back to full function… absolutely come in.

At Revive Chiropractic here in Sunnyvale, we love working with active people. It’s some of the most rewarding work I do — helping someone get back on the field, back on the trail, back to the gym, doing what makes them feel alive.
